2001 Walk to Remember Planned
October, 2001

Across the nation during the month of October (National Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month), thousands of parents, their friends & families, health professionals, clergy, and others affected by the death of a child will be participating in a ''Walk to Remember.''

To punctuate this special month, Toland-Herzig Funeral Homes of Dover and Strasburg will host the fourth annual, area ''Walk to Remember'' Tuesday, October 30, at 7pm.

For the second straight year, the 2001 program will include a unique candlelight walk, which will begin with a short program at the Toland-Herzig Monarch Center at 831 Boulevard, Dover.  The New Philadelphia First Christian Church Choir will provide special music for the Walk as well.

Nationally, the ''Walk'' is dedicated to the memory of the approximately 870,000 babies that die each year through miscarriage, ectopic pregnancy, stillbirth or infant death.

Todd Little, Director of Bereavement Services for Toland-Herzig sees the program on an even bigger scale. ''One of the most difficult losses to bear is the loss of a daughter or son,'' said Little. ''Whether it happens in adulthood or in pregnancy, it is devastating. Our Walk to Remember is dedicated to the memory of all sons and daughters who have died, regardless of their age.''

The first ''Walk to Remember'' was held September 26, 1986 at the National Perinatal Bereavement Conference in Chicago, Illinois.
