1999 ''Walk to Remember'' Planned
October, 1999
Across the nation during the month of October (National Infant Loss Awareness Month) thousands of parents, their friends and families, health professionals, clergy and others affected by the death of a child will be participating in a ''Walk to Remember''. To punctuate this special month, Toland-Herzig Funeral Homes of Dover and Strasburg will host the second annual, area ''Walk to Remember'' on Saturday, October 30, at 11:00am. The Walk will begin with a short program at the ''Garden of Hope'' pond outside the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home at Dover.
This walk is dedicated to the memory of the approximately 870,000 babies that die each year through miscarriage, ectopic pregnany, stillbirth or infant death, and is an appropriate way to honor the life of a child of any age who has died. The walk symbolically joins a national network of families and professionals who take part in a community ''Walk to Remember'' in order to raise awareness about perinatal grief, and to ensure that sensitive care is given to all parents that experience the death of a child.
The first ''Walk to Remember'' was held September 26, 1986 at the National Perinatal Bereavement Conference in Chicago, Illinois. If you have been affected by the death of a child, including an adult child, and would like to remember them in this very special way, call Todd Little at Toland-Herzig Funeral Homes (330) 343-6132 or email toddlittle@tolandherzig.com for information or registration.
