Trimmer Completes Cremation Arranging Training
June, 2002

Dennis Trimmer Jr. CFSP, of Toland-Herzig Funeral Homes of Dover and Strasburg recently completed a training program from the Cremation Assn. of North America.

The program was entitled “Advanced Cremation Arranging” and was conducted by Thomas J. Winninger. Winninger is one of America’s foremost business strategists. He has advised companies such as Kodak, Carrier, Wal-Mart and McDonalds among hundreds of others and has used his “value approach” methods to help these companies meet the ever-changing needs of today’s consumers.

Trimmer was one of only three funeral directors from Ohio in the intensive training program, which was over two years in development by CANA in conjunction with the Winninger Institute.

The Advanced Cremation Arranging training at Chicago focused on honing the funeral director’s skills in explaining the value in commemoration and ceremony.

“So many people think of cremation as the ‘end result’ and fail to take advantage of any way to commemorate or celebrate the life that was lived,” Trimmer said.

Topics at the two-day training included: “Understanding the Value Approach,” “Developing Rapport While Explaining Needs and Wants,” “Responding to Questions” and “Presenting Choices that Define Commemoration.”
