McKinnon Graduates from Leadership Tuscarawas
May, 2006
By Lee Morrison, Business Editor The Times Reporter
Tuesday's most recent graduates of the Leadership Tuscarawas program are being challenged to find your passion, follow it and make an impact.
Brian Kress, incoming president of the board of directors, issued the challenge during the annual graduation ceremony. More than 50 people attended the event in Union Country Club at Dover. It was the fourth graduation for the program.
On a night applauding leadership, special praise went to Cheryl Kinsey, who retired in March as executive director. The Stone Creek area resident began her duties Aug. 1, 2003.
Kinsey received a standing ovation and outgoing board president Dee Grossman-Tasker said there would not have been a program without Kinsey. Several graduates hugged Kinsey as they received their diploma.
Welcomed as the new executive director is Karen Williams, who resides at New Philadelphia with her husband, Scott, and children, Taylor and Riley.
The mission statement of Leadership Tuscarawas is ''To develop passionate, visionary leaders to strengthen the community.'' The program is designed to build leadership skills, create awareness of community needs and provide participants with hands-on experience in problem-solving within the county. Members meet monthly to target skills and discuss issues.
Participants began the 10-month program with a 1 1/2-day retreat. Other highlights included a six-hour bus tour throughout the county and seven day-long sessions on local issues and leadership training.
As with past classes, the 2006 graduates told about getting to know the area and personal growth that they can use to help the community.
A project is required of each class, and members collected socks, underwear and personal hygiene products at Christmas, as well as helping provide meals on a semi-monthly basis at the county homeless shelter at New Philadelphia operated by Friends of the Homeless of Tuscarawas County.
Members of the Class of 2005-2006 and their companies or organizations are as follows: John Barr of Buckeye Career Center; Tami Bolon of Edge- tech I.G.; Sally Dorn of American Title Associates Agency Inc.; Pat Faulhaber of Tuscarawas Campus of Kent State University; Jim Gill of Tuscarawas County Public Library; Dianne Rennicker and Heather Heid, both of the Society for Equal Access; Tricia Herzig-McKinnon of Toland-Herzig Funeral Homes & Crematory; Ryan Karp of The Times-Reporter; Kris Kreinbihl of First Federal Community Bank; Elizabeth Lauber of First Moravian Church of Dover; Conrad Mast of Zimmer Orthopaedic Surgical Products; Angie Miles of JP Morgan Chase; Amy Nelson of Tuscarawas County Chamber of Commerce; Jennie Reichman of Twin City Hospital; Cathy Roth of MKC Associates Inc.; Zita Rusher of the Timken Co.; Carla Schlegel of Huntington National Bank; Darwin Smith of Union Hospital; and attorney Kristin Zemis of Black, McCuskey, Hanhart, Deeds and Bauer.
