A.Lewis Cattabiani, 88, of Dover, Ohio died Friday, December 13, 2002 in the Park Village Health Care Center following complications as the result of a motor vehicle accident.
He was a retired schoolteacher having taught science for over 40 years. He began his teaching career in 1934 in Powhatan where he taught until 1941. He then taught at Galion, Ohio from 1941-42. In September, 1942, he began teaching at Dover High School until his retirement in 1974.
Born April 16, 1914 in Dawson, New Mexico, he was the son of the late Edward and Settimia Cattabiani.
Lewis was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Dover. He was also a member of the Dover Kiwanis Club and the Dover Moose Lodge where he enjoyed swimming. He was also a member of the Tuscarawas County Senior Citizens. He was a graduate of Muskingum College and received his Masters Degree from the University of Pittsburgh. He completed additional education from San Jose State College in California. He was an avid sports enthusiast and formerly participated in many sports. He was enjoyed gardening and carpentry and built most of the family home.
He and his wife, the late Edna Carpenter Cattabiani of 60 years loved traveling where they traveled to all fifty states and Europe. Edna died on February 8, 2000.
Lewis is survived by his daughter, Linda White of Zanesville. He is also survived by two grandchildren, Dr. Kristy Zechiel and husband, Dr. Timothy Peters of Tampa, Florida and Chad (Marda) Zechiel of Westerville; three great grandchildren, Devin James Zechiel, Layton Nelson Zechiel, and Eleanor Tatum Peters and one sister, Neda Antalis of Columbus.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Olga Ramsay and Jean Ramsay and a brother, Leo Cattabiani.
Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, December 17, 2002 at 2 pm in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home at Dover with Dr. David Oliver officiating. Interment will be in the Dover Burial Park. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday from noon until the time of service.
