Agnes Marceil “Maysie” Hammerstrom of 221 Superior Ave., Dover, Ohio died Wednesday, June 9, 2004 at Union Hospital in Dover following a brief illness. She would have celebrated her 89th birthday Friday (today).
She was a retired nurse anesthetist having worked for 25 years at Union Hospital in Dover. Her last assignment was at St. Thomas Hospital in Akron when her husband Phillip was transferred to that area. In 1987 upon Phil�(TM)s retirement they returned to Dover in the home they built after a 17 year absence.
Born June 10, 1915 on a farm in Portland, Indiana, she was the daughter of the late George and Gladys Mays.
She was a graduate of Ball State School of Nursing in Muncie, Indiana. She was also a graduate Nurse Anesthetist at University Hospital in Cleveland and worked three years at the Cleveland Clinic before coming to Dover. She was a member of the Grace Lutheran Church at Dover. They enjoyed frequent evening dinners in local restaurants and both enjoyed the joys of life together. Following retirement, they also enjoyed numerous cruises and excursions up the Mississippi River.
In addition to her husband, Phil with whom they would have celebrated 53 years of marriage on October 26, she is survived by two brothers, Everett Mays of Indiana and Ivan Mays of Texas. A nephew, Donald and Mary Jo Mays of Indiana. She is also survived by her brother in law Richard (Beverly) Hammerstrom of Dover and their family, Chad and Chet Hammerstrom and Holly Byers and a sister in law, Phyllis Espenschied of Dover and her family.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Charles Mays.
A funeral service celebrating the life of Maysie will be held Saturday, June 12, 2004 at 1:30 pm in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home at Dover with Revs. Lee Eilert and William Haggis officiating. Interment will be in the Dover Burial Park. Friends will be received Friday from 6-8 pm in the funeral home.
