Albert E. “Happy” Hartman, 92, of the Hennis Care Centre in Dover and formerly of Lisbon, Ohio died Friday, March 4, 2005 in the center following a brief illness.
He retired as an investigator for the Ohio State Dept. of Liquor Control. He had also previously been Chief Deputy Sheriff at Columbiana County and a former Ohio State Patrolman.
Born November 19, 1912 in Dover, he was the son of the late George William and Verna Burkey Hartman.
Albert was a 1931 graduate of Dover High School where he excelled as a football player. He was also a World War II U.S. Navy veteran. He was a 32nd degree mason in the Lisbon Masonic Lodge and member of the Lisbon American Legion Post. He was also a high school football and basketball referee for many years. He enjoyed his hobby as a beekeeper.
Albert was preceded in death by his wife, Jessie Mae Steffey Hartman who died Nov. 1, 1974.
He is survived by one daughter Judy (Tom) Morgan of Atwood Lake; two sons, David (Kathy) Hartman of Lisbon and William (Carol) Hartman of Wyomissing, Pa.; four stepchildren, grandchildren, Tracy (Jerry) Coleman, Andrew (Maria) Hartman, Leslie (Scott) Evans, Russell Lippincott, Kevin (Chris) Lippincott, Kyle, Matthew, and Chase Hartman; nine step grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, and one step great grandchild.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Betty Hartman Rufener.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, March 8, 2005 at 2pm in the New Lisbon Presbyterian Church with Rev. Mark Wilds officiating. Interment will be in the Lisbon Village Cemetery. Friends may call at the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory in Dover on Monday from 6-8 pm and at the church Tuesday from 1-2 pm.
