Albert V. Antonelli, 81, of 77 E. Iron Ave., Dover, Ohio died Friday, February 28, 2003 in the Morning View Care Center at New Philadelphia following a brief illness.

He retired in 1986, as an employee of the Republic Steel Company in Massillon where he worked for over 40 years.

Born September 26, 1921 in Dover, the son of the late Anthony and Angelina Carbone Antonelli.

Albert was an active member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Dover and its senior citizen group. He enjoyed helping out and distributing communion at Park Village Health Care Center. He was an avid sports enthusiast and was a former assistant football and basketball coach. He enjoyed watching and listening to the Cleveland Indians, Browns, Ohio State, Navy, high school sports and especially Central Catholic. He was a member of the Central Catholic Booster Club where he was a highly motivated ticket and program ad seller and member of the Knights of Columbus. He was a 1938 graduate of the former St. Joseph High School. He honorably served in the US Navy during World War II. He was an announcer for many years at the St. Joseph Festivals calling out the Paddle Wheel numbers in his loud and boisterous voice. He loved gardening and was one who always had some of the first tomatoes to eat and ripen. He also enjoyed smoking a good Phillies cigar and picking raspberries and black berries.

He is survived by his wife Lena Festi Antonelli with whom he would have celebrated 56 years of marriage on May 17.

He is also survived by three daughters; Patricia (Dave) Lorenzoni of Stone Creek, Mary (Steve) Lenarz of Dover and Angela Antonelli of Dallas, Texas

Three sons Albert (Terri) Antonelli of Dayton, Anthony (Jean) Antonelli and Mike (Catherine) Antonelli all of Cleveland; twenty one grandchildren: Stephen (Korey) Antonelli, Jonathan Antonelli, John Gordon, Leslie Gordon (Chad) Massengale, Lisa Gordon (Eric) Dulski, Greg, Katie, Chrissie, and Andrew Lorenzoni, Amy, Joe, Tony, and Mary Antonelli, Danny and Lindsey Lenarz, and Mark, Gina, Maggie, Alex, Emily, and Angela Antonelli along with three great grandchildren, Sarah Gordon and Tyler and Mason Massengale.

Two sisters Emma Antonelli of Dover and Irene (Dick) Sheeders of California.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Virginia Franz and a brother, Victor Antonelli.

A funeral mass will be held Tuesday, March 4, 2003 at 11:30 am in the St. Joseph Catholic Church at Dover with Fr. William Arnold officiating. Interment will be in the Calvary Cemetery at Dover where the Dover VFW will conduct military graveside services. Friends may call at the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home in Dover on Monday from 2-4 & 7-9 pm with Christian Wake services at 8:30 pm.
