Albert W. Walker

Albert W. Walker, age 79, of New Philadelphia, died Saturday, July 27, 2013, in Community Hospice House.

Born December 21, 1933, at New Philadelphia (Schoenbrunn), he was a son of the late Albert and Eva Reed Walker. Albert served honorably with the United States Army during the Korean War era. During his time in the service, he met Winifred "Winnie" DeLoach. The two fell in love and were married on January 24, 1957 at Long County, Georgia. Upon his discharge, Albert returned to Tuscarawas County and went to work for the U.S. Ceramic Tile Company at East Sparta, from which he retired in 1996 after forty years of service.

He was a member of Countryside Baptist Church in Port Washington; the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Eagles and Moose Lodges, all of Dover. Albert loved the outdoors, and enjoyed hunting deer, turkey and squirrel, as well as just walking in the woods. He was skillful with his hands and liked working with wood in his workshop often while listening to country music.

Survivors include his loving wife, Winnie; his two sons, Terry A. (Kit) Walker of Dover, and Clint W. Walker of New Philadelphia; his two grandchildren, Bryce and Ariel Walker; his mother-in-law, Mildred DeLoach Blocker of Glennville, Georgia; his four sisters and two brothers; his sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law; as well as his many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Albert was preceded in death by his grandson, Devin Walker; and by a brother.

Family and friends are invited to call at the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory at Dover on Monday, July 29, 5:30 7:30 p.m. A funeral service will be held Tuesday at 1 p.m. in the funeral home with Pastor Patrick Boyle officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Burial Park, New Philadelphia, where military rites will be conducted by the Dover V.F.W. honor guard.
