Alex C. Bellanco

Alex C. Bellanco, 91, of Dover died Friday morning, Jan. 11, 2013 in the Community Hospice House at New Philadelphia following a brief illness.

Born April 11, 1921 in Wilkes Barre, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late Sebastian and Nellie (Matello) Bellanco. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Catherine Trainer.

Alex retired in 1984 from the former Reeves Steel Company at Dover following 25 years of service.

He was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church at Dover, Knights of Columbus, and the former Dover VFW. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II and fought in the Normandy Invasion. He could often be seen walking at New Towne Mall in New Philadelphia where he routinely exercised.

He will be sadly missed by his family including his wife Josephine (Pietro) Bellanco with whom he would have celebrated 66 years of marriage this June 21; two sons, Leslie (Regina) Bellanco of Deltona, Florida and Richard (Ellen) Bellanco of Wooster, Ohio; five grandchildren, Cindy Bellanco, Leslie Bellanco, David (Denise) Bellanco, Ashley Bellanco and Nick (Molly) Bellanco and three great grandchildren; two sisters, Mary Jo Hunter of Davie, Florida and Anna Mae Verner of Follansbee, West Virginia and a brother, Steve Bellanco of Ontario, California.

Fr. Jeff Coning will officiate funeral services on Monday, Jan. 14, 2013 beginning at noon in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory at Dover. Interment will be in the Calvary Cemetery at Dover where the Dover VFW will conduct military honors. Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday from 5-7pm.
