Alexandra Rose Gatelaro, the 9-year-old daughter of Anthony J. & Julie Ewing Gatelaro of Dover, died Sunday, July 2, 2006 as a result of injuries sustained in an accident while riding her bicycle.
She had just completed her 3rd grade year at St. Joseph(TM)s School.
Alex was born in Canton on January 29, 1997, and from that very first day, it was obvious that she was one of a kind.
She would grow into a bright, inquisitive spirit that always had her seeking answers. She had a tremendous attitude and seemingly made friends no matter where she was. Her activities were many, and she tackled each one with her famous zeal, whether it was Girl Scouts, ballet, soccer or playing the piano.
Alex loved being outdoors, especially enjoyed fishing and camping with her family, and also had a special fondness for horses.
She was a member of St. Joseph Church where she was involved in the Junior Choir.
She touched the lives of so many in such a short time. In addition to her parents, Alex will be missed most by: her siblings, Samantha, Raya, and Antonia Gatelaro, all of the home; maternal grandparents, Wilma Ewing and her fiancé Roy, and Larry (Dee) Ewing all of Iowa; aunts and uncles, Larry (Kim) Ewing of Iowa, Dan (Melissa) Geib of Wisconsin, and Joe (Karen) Gatelaro and Dominic (Cathy) Gatelaro of the Youngstown area. Her extended family includes nine cousins, many great aunts and uncles, and a very special friend of the family, Dolly Contini, of Dover.
Her paternal grandparents, Joseph and Maryann Gatelaro, preceded her in death.
A funeral mass that celebrates Alex(TM)s life will be held Thursday, July 6, at 10:30 a.m. in St. Joseph Catholic Church. Fr. William Arnold will officiate. Entombment in Dover Burial Park(TM)s Garden of Peace Mausoleum will follow mass. A meal will then be held in the St. Joseph School activity center.
