Alfred K. "Ken" Johnson, 61, of Dover died at Union Hospital on December 14, 2010 following an extended illness.
Alfred was born on November 11, 1949 in New Martinsville, West Virginia. He was the son of the late Alfred G. and Ruth Evelyn Blake Johnson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents; Charles and Florence Johnson, and maternal grandparents; David Edward and Clara Blake as well as his infant brother; Charles Eugene Johnson.
Alfred began working at Buehler's Food Market in 1967 while he was attending Dover High School. He graduated from Dover in 1969. He continued working for Buehler's as a head cake decorator for several years, and then as a baker and cake decorator until he retired in 2002.
Alfred was a very artistic man, who enjoyed crafts, flower arranging and ceramics. He won various awards for his talents. He loved baking cakes for weddings, birthdays and anniversaries. He also loved traveling. Rome, France, Switzerland, Spain, and Hawaii were just a few of the places that he visited. He was happiest when he was surrounded by family and friends for holidays and barbecue's and also loved attending festivals of all kinds. He was an avid Ohio State fan.
He will be sadly missed by his two sisters; Ruth (Companion, Larry Zuchegno) Hayden, and Linda (Lee) Miller both of Dover; his niece, Malinda Hockenberry of Dover as well as many cousins, aunts, uncles and close friends.
A celebration of Alfred's life will take place at Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory in Dover on Saturday, December 18, 2010 at 1:00 pm with Pastor Tim Hatfield officiating. Burial will follow at Dover Burial Park. Following the service of committal, a meal will be served at the Toland-Herzig Monarch Center in Dover. Friends are invited to call at the funeral home on Friday, December 17, 2010 from 5-9 pm.
