Alice Jean Otto, age 77, of New Philadelphia, passed away Monday, May 17, in her home surrounded by her loving family.
Born April 8, 1944, in Dennison, she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Lucille Davis Hines. Alice graduated from Uhrichsville High School and went on to attend Kent State University and the Ohio State School of Cosmetology. On October 17, 1963, she married Kenneth E. Otto II; the couple had two children and shared nearly 49 years of marriage prior to Kennth’s passing on February 1, 2012. In addition to being a loving wife and mother, Alice was a hairstylist, having begun her career at Lackland Air Force Base in Texas during Kenneth’s service time. Additionally, she had worked for the Tuscarawas County Board of Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities.
Alice was a long-time member of the Tuscarawas County Humane Society and had served as the organization’s president. She dearly loved animals, was an advocate for their welfare, and worked in wildlife rehabilitation.
Alice is survived by her son and daughter, Kenneth (Amy) Otto III and Jenni German, both of New Philadelphia; her grandchildren, Alaina and Alyssa German and Andrew (Joy) Recchiuti; her great-grandchildren, Trent and Leo; her brother, Dennis Hines of Destin, Florida; and her several nieces and nephews, including Darin and Deric Hines.
Besides her parents and her husband, Kennth, Alice was preceded in death by her brother, Larry Bruney.
