Alice Lucinda Prough of Strasburg, recently of the Hennis Care Centre at Dover was made well again on Tuesday, December 27, 2011.
Alice was born on June 23, 1934, the eldest of five daughters to the late Guy C. and Sarah Walker Goshorn. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her sister, Gladys Burgess and three brothers in law, Paul Reynolds, Philip "Max" Burgess and Ralph Simmers.
She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Clinton C. Prough; son, Allen G. Prough; daughter, Lynn Ann (Roger) Billiter; grandson, Craig R. Billiter all of Strasburg; sisters, Verna Simmers of New Philadelphia, Rosalie Reynolds of Dover and Mary Jane.
She was born in Tuscarawas County and attended several schools including Strasburg. In her early working career she was employed at Chuck's Chicken in Parral and Aberth's Bakery in New Philadelphia and later in life she worked at Wardell's Restaurant and the Twin's Motel both in Strasburg.
On June 1, 1956 she married Clinton C. Prough shortly after his return from Korea. She and Clinton attended Faith Baptist Church at Wilkshire Hills where she sang in the choir for many years and was baptized in 1998. Alice was a long time member of the Charles Hofer Post of the Strasburg American Legion Auxiliary where she served as secretary and then as Chaplain. She enjoyed crocheting, baking, cake decorating, quilting, embroidering and reading Danielle Steele novels before Alzheimers took them from her and her from us.
Private family services will be held with interment in the Dover Burial Park. The Toland-Herzig Funeral Home and Crematory at Dover is handling arrangements.
