Allen J. Brinkley, 90, of Strasburg, Ohio died Wednesday, January 3, 2007 in the Affinity Medical Center in Massillon following an extended illness.
Allen retired from Belden Brick Company at Strasburg. He also previously worked as a heavy equipment operator for the former Bockus & Son Contractors in East Sparta for twenty five years and also formerly worked for the Civilian Conservation Corporation in several western states during World War II.
Born September 21, 1916 in Pisqua Forest, North Carolina, he was the son of the late Allen and Eunice Thornton Brinkley. He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Shirley Scott, a grandson, Allen Maynard, two sons in laws, Maynard Scott and Herman Huston along with four brothers and one sister.
Allen was a former Tusky Valley School board member. He was also Past President and school board member at New Cumberland School. He was a Past President of the CIO Union Local #147 Glass and Ceramic Workers, member of the Beach City Lions Club and former member of the Strasburg AARP. He was an avid baseball fan and enjoyed playing cards and gardening.
Allen is survived by his wife, Mary Mizia Brinkley with whom he would have celebrated 69 years of marriage this June 14; three children, Janet Huston, Connie (Ken) Myers, and Ron (Patti) Brinkley all of Strasburg; one sister, Irene Lehigh of New Philadelphia and nine grandchildren, sixteen great grandchildren, and fourteen great great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services celebrating Allen�(TM)s life will be held Saturday, January 6, 2007 at 10am in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory in Dover with Pastor Jeff Mathews officiating. Interment will be in the Grandview Union Cemetery at Strasburg. A reception will follow in the Toland-Herzig Monarch Center. Friends may call on Friday from 5-8pm at the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory in Dover.
