Alva T. "Hap" Ridgway, 82, of New Philadelphia died Friday, October 11, 2013 in the Hospice House.
Born July 12, 1931 in Strasburg he was a son of the late Walter and Esther Books Ridgway. He was also preceded in death by four sisters, two brothers and his step son, Richard Hostetler.
He retired from Rebuild in Dennison as a mechanic after many years of service and was a member of Union Hill United Methodist Church.
Hap is survived by his wife Helen Ridgway whom he married on December 5, 1992. He is also survived by his three children with his first wife (the former Mary Lou McCahill), Marsha (Mark) Judy of Dover, Revecka (Terry) St. George of New Philadelphia and Randy (Deb) Ridgway of Millersburg; step children, Judy (Merle) Swartzentruber of Sugarcreek, Patricia Freeman of Walnut Creek and Joyce (James) Beechy of Millersburg; grandchildren, Terry St. George Jr., Greer St. George and companion Travis Llewellyn and Vince Ridgway; great grandchild, Sylis Llewellyn; brother, Joseph (Jeannie) Ridgway and sister, Elizabeth Burtscher both of New Philadelphia and many nieces and nephews.
Cremation has been entrusted to the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home and Crematory at Dover. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 19 at 11:00 am in the Union Hill United Methodist Church at Sugarcreek with Rev. Karl Candel officiating.
