Alvin Eugene Moser, 74, died Thursday in Park Village Health Care Center at Dover where he had resided a week. His health had been declining for several years and he had undergone brain surgery in March. Known to his family as Buss, to his plumbing buddies as Bussy, and to his many friends as Al, he was born Aug. 28, 1934. A son of the late Alvin C. and Marie Graves Moser, he entered this world in the same house off the Dover-Zoar Rd. where his father had been born 26 years earlier.
Al graduated from Dover High in 1952. While he was still in high school he went to work for his uncle, the late Russell Graves, at Plumbing Contractors & Supply of Dover, and also worked for its successor, Standard Plumbing. He became a journeyman plumber and a member of Plumbers and Pipefitters Local 495, serving 17 years as secretary. He later became a founding partner in Flickinger Piping Co. at Dover. Another uncle, Carl Graves, who worked with him for many years, also died Thursday.
Since it s inception, Alvin voluntarily kept the water running at the "Trumpet in the Land" amphitheater, making sure everything worked in the spring, winterizing every thing in the fall and fixing anything that needed it in between. He also was right there when there was plumbing work to be done at Grace Lutheran Church in Dover where he was a life member. Over the years he held practically every office in the church, some several times, and sang in the choir. He was a life member of Dover Jaycees, a member of the Tuscarawas County YMCA , and a charter member of Y's Men. He played church league volleyball, softball and basketball at the Y. He and Bob Phillips coached boy's high school basketball for Grace Lutheran Church. Over the years he also coached many Dover Little League and Minor League baseball teams. His hobbies included hunting, fishing, canoeing and playing bridge. He belonged to two bridge clubs and a men's card club.
On June 10, 1956, Alvin married Frances Carolyn Bair. They became the parents of four children, a son, Ronald, who died in 1987, two daughters, Gale (Denny) Limron of New Philadelphia and Lori (Jerry) Keller of Reynoldsburg, and another son, Steven (Tina) Moser of El Salvador, Central America, where they are missionaries. He is also survived by a daughter-in-law, Sue (Jeff) Moser Seifert of Strasburg. There are 10 grandchildren, Jenna (Joseph) Penrod of Dover, Derek Limron of New Philadelphia, Angie (Spence) Pinion of Blacklick, O., Andrew Keller of Columbus, Alex Keller of Reynoldsburg, Brittany (Branden) Bean of Galloway, Cassi Moser (fianc, Sean Newsome) and Shelby Seifert of Strasburg, Stuart Moser of Word of Life Bible Institute, Schroon Lake, NY., and Kearstin Moser of El Salvador; and two great-grandchildren, Ava Penrod of Dover and Steeler Bean of Galloway.
