Ann Marie Sarago

Ann Marie Sarago, age 88, a long-time resident of Austintown, and more recently of Windsor House at Canfield, passed away Monday, November 13, 2023, in Mercy Health - St. Elizabeth Hospital, Boardman.

Born April 9, 1935, in Hiller, Fayette County, Pennsylvania, she was a daughter of the late Michael Andrew and Anna Marie Kralik Berdak. Ann graduated from East Bethlehem High School in Washington County, Pennsylvania. As a young lady, she drove Dr. Jonas Salk several times to the University of Pittsburgh during his experimental treatment of a polio victim at the miners’ clinic in Vestaburg, Pennsylvania, where she worked. Ann married Thomas Joseph “Tom” Sarago on September 3, 1955. The couple raised a family of eight children and shared nearly 66 years of marriage prior to Tom’s passing on May 10, 2021. She was employed for many years by Gorant Candies in Austintown.

Ann was a faithful member of St. Joseph Church, Austintown, and volunteered for decades at the St. Vincent de Paul Dining Hall in Youngstown.

She will be dearly missed by her children, Mark (Philicia) and Matt Sarago, Jill (Dan) Ifft, Amy (Jeffrey) Wilson, Michael, Thomas (Vicki), Ted (Deanna) and Daniel (Karyn) Sarago; her grandchildren, Amber, Daniel, Christian, Kaitlin, Michael, Anthony, Nicole, Emi, Kate and Landon; her great-grandchildren, Quinn, Decker, Zara, Eli, Caroline and Isla; and her many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, and her husband, Tom, she was preceded in death by her sister and brothers, Valeria Hamilla and Andrew and Sy Berdak.

Ann will be cremated in accordance with her wishes, and her cremated remains placed in the Mary Mother of Mercy Mausoleum of St. Vincent Cemetery in Latrobe, Pennsylvania. A private family Mass will be celebrated in the St. Vincent Archabbey Basilica.
