Anna J. Wood, 86, of Dover died peacefully Sunday evening at the Park Village Health Care Center lovingly surrounded by her family.
Anna was born April 24, 1924 in Salem, Ohio, the daughter of the late Edward and Myrtle (Cartright) Jenkins.
She retired in 1985 as a cook at Park Village. She was also formerly employed at the former Barr Drug Store in downtown Dover and the Quik Chek in Dover.
During World War II, she proudly served her country as �Rosie the Riveter� having worked on B26 and B 29 planes at the Goodyear Hangar in Akron. She wrote about her experiences during the War and shared her life with her family through years of writing in her diaries.
Anna was an active member of the First United Methodist Church in Dover where she was a former Sunday Schoolteacher. She was an active volunteer for organizations including Meals on Wheels and the T-4-C. She also enjoyed painting and sewing and will be remembered as a wonderful mother and grandmother. She was a 1941 graduate of New Philadelphia High School.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 33 years, Robert O. Wood who died June 1, 1978. She was also preceded by three brothers, Dale, Tom, and Neil Jenkins.
Anna is survived by four daughters, Laurel (husband, James) Wemple of Dover, Beth (husband, Ken) Duff of Strasburg, Linda (husband, Mike) Comella of Dover and Joyce (husband, Scott) Widder of Dover; one son, Bob (wife, Daphne) Wood of Syracuse, Utah; seventeen grandchildren, Jami (Aaron) Ley, Stephani (Kevin) Krueger, Zach (Shannon) Wemple, Kim (Dave) Mitchel, Lindsay (Jeff) Parson, Hayley Duff, Sidney (Adam) Hammer, Dave (Amanda) Barber, JoLyn (Jim) McFadden, Anna and Chas Comella and Samantha and Danny Widder, Derek, Naomi, Quinten and Anna Elise Wood; thirteen great grandchildren, two brothers, Ronald Jenkins and Don (Barb) Jenkins both of Union, Ohio and two sisters, Carol Wardell of Strasburg and Kathryn Studer of New Philadelphia.
A funeral celebrating Anna� s life will be held Saturday, August 21, 2010 at 11am in the First United Methodist Church in Dover with Pastor Bruce McLaughlin and Jeff Parson officiating. Interment will be in the Grandview Union Cemetery at Strasburg. Friends may call at the church Saturday from 9am- 11am.
