Anna L. Tamborini (nee Berlendis), age 88, of Dover, died Good Friday, April 22, 2011, at Wainwright in the home of her sister, Geraldine “Jerry” Berlendis.
Born, Apr. 12, 1923, in the family home at Wainwright, she was a daughter of the late Peter and Cora Bonvechio Berlendis. Anna attended elementary school in Wainwright and graduated from Tuscarawas Warwick High School. She went on to enter St. Elizabeth Hospital School of Nursing at Covington, Kentucky and earned her license as a registered nurse. Anna's nursing career included working as a public health nurse in the mountains of Kentucky, serving honorably with U.S. Army Nursing Corps during the Second World War and obtaining the rank of Second Lieutenant. She also worked at Twin City Hospital and for Dr E. R. Hammersly prior to employment at Union Hospital from which she retired after twenty-five years of service.
Anna married Jordan “Pie” Tamborini on Jul. 12, 1947 in St. Therese's Church, Wainwright; the couple made their home at Dover and reared three girls, of whom they were most proud.
Anna enjoyed many activities: She was an avid gardener and enjoyed traveling, reading and spending time with her grandchilden. Anna held strongly to her beliefs and was a member of St. Joseph Church at Dover. Anna also participated in several clubs and organizations including St. Therese's Altar Society, of which she served as president, St. Joseph's study club, the Union Hospital Retirees and served as a former Girl Scout Troop Leader.
She is survived by her three daughters and sons-in-law, Susan and George Donovan of Washington D.C., Lori and Thomas Stan of Akron, and Monica and Richard Gabriel of Swampscott, MA; her grandsons Joshua Stan of Akron, Aaron Gabriel of Swampscott, MA; her granddaughter, Sydney Stan of Akron; her dear sister, Jerry Berlendis of Wainwright; sister-in-law Thelma Lanz of Toledo and her nieces, Mary Cardani of Wainwright, Beth Cardani of New Philadelphia, Robin Lanz and Marissa Lanz Herrington Hutzman, both of Toledo; her nephew, Tony Tamborini of Wake Forest, NC; her great-nieces, Courtney Donohoe, Harmony Herrington and Stacie Jefferys; and her great-nephews, Chris, Josh, and Shawn Tamborini.
In addition to her parents, Anna was preceded in death by her husband, Jordan "Pie," on June 20, 2005; and by her sister, Angela “Jean” Cardani and Jean�(TM)s husband, Pete; brothers-in-law, Carl Tamborini and Robert Lanz; sister-in-law, Opal Tamborini; and her great-nephew, Corey Tamborini.
Friends and family may call on Tuesday, Apr. 26, 4:30 - 7:30 p.m., with the Rosary being prayed at 7:30. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, Apr. 27, at 10:30 a.m., in St. Joseph Church. Burial will be alongside Pie in Calvary Cemetery, New Philadelphia. The Dover post of the Veterans of Foreign Wars will perform military rites at the grave. Following the committal, there will be a luncheon in the Toland-Herzig Monarch Center on the Boulevard at Dover.
