Ann S. Orr, 87, of Dover, died Tuesday, May 11, 2004, in Morning View Care Center, New Philadelphia.
Born Apr. 7, 1917, in Cleveland, Ann was a daughter of the late Metro “Mike” and Barbara Urich Guspyt. She moved to the Ragersville-Stone Creek area of Tuscarawas County at a young age with her family. Ann was valedictorian of her high school class, and went on to attend Beckwith Business College in New Philadelphia. She was employed by St. John�(TM)s Evangelical and Reformed Church (now St. John�(TM)s United Church of Christ) in Dover, and kept books for several local businesses, including Bill Hawk and Weaver Motors. Ann retired from The Times-Reporter in 1979, following twenty-five years of service.
She was a member of St. John�(TM)s, and loved to garden and sew. She was known for growing beautiful flowers, and creating cross-stitched tablecloths and wall-hangings. Some of her needlework was displayed in the J.E. Reeves Home and Museum.
Survivors include a daughter, Barbara (Ray) Johnson of Dearborn, MI; a son, James W. Orr of Dover; three granddaughters, Melanie (Ben) Kunze, Melissa (Daran) Chapman, and Samantha Orr; a great-grandson, Connor Kunze; and a brother, Charlie (Ruby) Guspyt of Gnadenhutten.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of fifty-eight years, William J. Orr, on Jun. 23, 2000; two sisters, Mary Guspyt and Helen Winkler; and a brother, Andy Guspyt.
A funeral service celebrating Ann�(TM)s life will be held Friday, May 14, 2004, at 11 a.m., in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home, 246 E. High Ave., New Philadelphia. Rev. Steve Daniels will officiate, with remarks by Pastor Dode Overton of the New Life Church of God in Dover. Burial will be in Dover Burial Park. Following the committal, there will be a reception in the Toland-Herzig Monarch Center, 831 Boulevard, Dover.
