Arlene M. Kandel, a longtime Dover area resident died Sunday, February 10, 2002 at Union Hospital following an extended illness.
She was a 20 year employee of the Hennis Care Centre at Dover. She said “This is my life working at Hennis Care Centre. It is wonderful to know that you are making the residents�(TM) eyes light up and putting a smile on their faces. The residents know that you care.”
Born November 26, 1926, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Iva Balder Weber.
Arlene enjoyed baking, working outdoors, and going camping with her family. She loved her job because she enjoyed working with elderly and children. Her favorite quote was “Always look ahead and never look back and be thankful to the Lord.” She was April 1995 Employee of the Month at Hennis.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph W. Kandel who died February 13, 1982. They were married on February 18, 1944.
She is survived by eight children; Mary (William) Ankney of New Philadelphia, Eileen (Ike) Smith of Beach City, Junior J. (Ruth) Kandel of Charlotte, North Carolina, Larry A Kandel, Beverly (Ray) Smith, Ronald (Marijo) Kandel, Bruce (Anne) Kandel, and Karen (John) Page all of Dover. Fourteen grandchildren; William and Shannon Ankney, Debra and Steve Veid, Rod Getchey, Scott Hanni, Traci and Brian Singree, A.J. and Staci Kandel, Tonya Simmons, Adam Gunnish, Bronson Kandel, Ronijo Kandel, Thad Kandel, Stefanie Kandel, Tiffany Jackson, and Nate Page and six step grandchildren; and five great grandchildren; Emily Veid, Destinie Getchey, Clifford Hanni, Ethan Singree, and Seven Kandel. She is also survived by seven brothers and sisters; Margaret (Robert) Frey of Strasburg, Pauline Shumaker of Dover, Grace Duke of New Philadelphia, Wanda (Dennis) Tonn of Massillon, Raymond (Judy) Weber of Canton, Joe (Bonnie) Weber of Mooresville, North Carolina, and Glen (Joyce) Weber of Massillon.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Mildred Remley and one brother, Art Weber.
Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, February 13, 2002 at 11 am in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home at Dover with Pastor Scott Snyder officiating. Interment will be in the Ridgecrest Memory Gardens. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 2-4 & 7-9 pm.
