Arline Froelich Stucky

April 3, 1915 — September 1, 2009

Arline Vernice (Froelich) Stucky, 94, of Park Village in Dover passed away early Tuesday, September 1, 2009 after an extended illness. Arline had lived at Park Village for almost two years after a year at the Country Club Retirement Center.

A lifelong member of St. John's United Church of Christ in Dover, Arline was very active in the Adult Bible Class and Women's Fellowship. She took her turn leading devotions for the Sunday School openings and frequently played the piano for the class. Arline was also active in various prayer circles and served on committees that presented devotions and prepared refreshments for meetings, ranging from church dinners and wedding receptions to funeral meals. In her youth, she was a member of the choir and played the piano at Renner Church.

Arline was the wife of the late Francis R. Froelich, a longtime manager with Buehler's in Dover and New Philadelphia in addition to managing the company's "Big B" stamp program in Wooster and housewares and toys in Orrville. Arline worked at the Buehler's store in Orrville for many years prior to Francis' retirement. Arline was also a former volunteer at Union Hospital's front desk and gift shop and with the American Cancer Society, including time on its board of directors.

Arline was born April 3, 1915 on the Bucks Township farmstead that is now known as Rainbow Hills Vineyards. The winery's bed and breakfast facility now rests on the foundation of the farm home where she was born. Arline was a 1932 graduate of Bakersville High School and spent most of her life in Dover.

Her interests were many and varied. She loved family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She spent many hours in the flower gardens of her Ninth Street home during the fifties and early sixties and loved to sew and quilt during the winter months. She never shied away from a game of Jass, Bridge, or Rummy. She will be dearly missed by those who found her a willing listener and compassionate confidante.

Preceding her in death were her parents, Albert and Elizabeth (Regula) Stilgenbauer; two sisters, Catherine Stilgenbauer and Louise Neiss; her first husband, Francis and second husband, Clarence Stucky. She is survived by a brother, Ray Stilgenbauer (and wife Betty) of New Philadelphia; two sons, Larry (Suzanne) of Lexington, Ky., and Stephen (Bonnie) of Findlay; two grandsons, Mark (Christa) of Grosse Pointe Farms, Mich., and Eric of Lexington, Ky., and a granddaughter, Britta (husband, Marc) Spanke of Ellenton, Fla., and four great grandchildren, Jack, Lindsay, Halle, and Clare and many nieces and nephews.

A funeral service celebrating Arline's life will be held Saturday, September 5, 2009 at 1pm in the St. John's United Church of Christ at Dover with Pastors Michael Lowry and Edwin Shriver officiating. She will be laid to rest beside her husband, Francis in the Dover Burial Park. A reception will follow in the church fellowship hall.
