Arline I. Hiltner

Arline I. Hiltner, 88, of Dover died Thursday, March 12, 2009 in Dover after a sudden illness.

Born in Columbia, Ohio on January 11, 1921, she was the daughter of the late Leo and Bertha Steiner Schenk.

Arline graduated from Strasburg High School. While in high school, she enjoyed writing poetry and was the literary editor for her high school yearbook. Arline spent a couple years working in retail at Joyce Adair Children's Store in downtown Dover.
She is survived by her loving husband, Harlan R. Hiltner, whom she married on April 11, 1948.

She was a very busy homemaker. She enjoyed staying close to home, spending quality time with her family, and baking. Her family will remember her by her legendary cherry pies.
Arline was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ in Dover, where she was formerly active with Sarah's Circle of the Church.

In addition to her husband, Harlan, she is survived by her daughter; Nancy (John) Pierpont of Riverview, Ohio; two sons, Karl Hiltner of Hudson, Ohio and Dale Hiltner of St. Louis, Missouri; her six grandchildren, David, Karl, Karen, Nicholas, Emelia, and Stephen; and three great-grandchildren, Shane, Erin, and Kash.
She is preceded in death by two sisters; Edna and Lillian; and five brothers, Sam, Fred, John, Earl, and William "Bill."

A celebration of Arline's life will take place at the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home and Crematory in Dover on Tuesday, March 17, 2009 at 11:00 am with Pastor Michael Lowry officiating. Burial will follow in Dover Burial Park. Following the service of committal, a reception will take place at the Toland-Herzig Monarch Center, which is located on the Boulevard in Dover. Friends are invited to call at the funeral home on Monday, March 16, 2009 from 6-8 pm.
