Arthur W. Krantz, 87, of Dover died Saturday, May 25, 2013 in the Hospice House at New Philadelphia surrounded by his loving family.
He retired from Joy Manufacturing after 25 years of service.
Born August 1, 1925 in Dover he was a son of the late Frank and Florence Reis Krantz. Art was also preceded in death by his sisters, Jeanne Young and Jane Kridler; brother, Richard Krantz and sisters in law, Charleyne Krantz and Sue Wendling Spring.
Art proudly served his country with the US Navy during WW II aboard the LST 718 that saw action throughout the Pacific. He was a member of the United States LST Association, Ohio LST / Amphibious Association, life member of the New Philadelphia VFW, Senior Center, the former Dover Elks and the Senior Elks Golf League. Art was an avid golfer and was a familiar figure on the golf course. He was an avid gardener, who enjoyed taking care of his organic garden. His family particularly, loved his famous "miracle" sweet corn that he produced and shared.
A wonderful and loving husband, father and grandfather, Art will be sadly missed by his wife of 62 years, Waldine "Skip" Wendling Krantz, whom he met at the former Spanish Ballroom, and married on September 1, 1950 in the Grace Lutheran Church by Pastor Karl Driscoll. Other survivors include his three children, Arthur "Doug" (Sharon) Krantz of New Philadelphia, Holly (Rick) Vesco of Bolivar and Jan Margaret Krantz of Dover; grandchildren, Zachary, Tyler and Michaela Krantz and Ashley (Nick) Kerns and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 29 at 1:30 pm in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home and Crematory at Dover with Pastor Donald Rice officiating. Interment will be at the Dover Burial Park. Following the burial the family will have a luncheon at the Toland-Herzig Monarch Center. Friends can call at the funeral home one-hour prior to the service on Wednesday.
