Atlee M. Baker, 87, of Dover, went home to the Lord, Sunday, Oct. 20, 2002.
Born May 7, 1915, in Barrs Mills, he was a son of the late Charles and Mary Ruch Baker. Atlee married Claribel “Peggy” Lawrence on Sept. 10, 1940; the couple celebrated sixty-two wonderful years of marriage together this year. Atlee retired from Union Camp Chemical Co. (now Arizona Chemical) in 1980.
He was an avid hunter, trapper and fisherman. Atlee was also an amateur machinist, who enjoyed working on his lathe. He was a gunsmith, and built and repaired muzzle-loading rifles.
Atlee was never too busy to lend a helping hand to family and friends. He gave generously of his time to the American Cancer Society, and volunteered at Country Club Retirement Center, Dover. Atlee was a member of Dover Christian & Missionary Alliance Church.
In addition to his wife, Peggy, he is survived by a daughter, Bonnie (Dave) Michaud of Buckeye, AZ; two sons, Tim (Rolene) Baker of Dover, and Dick Baker of Chicago; grandchildren, Tim Baker of Marietta, Mike (Missy) Baker of Scottsdale, AZ, Erin (Chip) Stephan of Dover, Nicole Auman of Buckeye, AZ, and Aaron and Jessica Baker of Chicago, IL; three great-grandchildren; a sister, Irene Carson of Naples, FL; a brother, Cletus Baker of Arkansas; many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant son, Thomas Woodrow Baker; a sister Alice Buss; four brothers, Arletus, Irvin, Floyd and Morris Baker.
A funeral service will be held Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2002, at 1:30 p.m., in the Dover Christian & Missionary Alliance Church, with Rev. Richard G. Rose officiating. Burial will be in Dover Burial Park. Following the committal, there will be a reception in the church. Visitation will be Tuesday (today), Oct. 22, 2002, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m., in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home, Dover, and Wednesday, 12:30-1:30 p.m., in the church.
