Audrey Mae Merryman, 95, of New Philadelphia, and a long-time resident of Cadiz Junction, died Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2011, in Union Hospital.
Born May 13, 1915, in Bloomingdale, Audrey was the daughter of the late Lewis Mahala and Nora Anita Miller Carman. She graduated from Hopedale High School and later married Francis D. "Tank" Merryman. The couple resided in the Merryman family home at Cadiz Junction. Audrey was a loving homemaker who enjoyed farm life, and was a good neighbor and friend, often caring for those who were sick.
She was a member of Centre Unity Presbyterian Church, and the Ladies' Aid Society of the church. Audrey also belonged to the Silver Thirty-Niners Senior Citizens Group, and assisted with 4-H and the Harrison County Extension Office.
Always busy, some of Audrey's favorite activities were tending her gardens - she had three, and canning. She loved to sew, quilt and crochet, and toward the twilight years of her life she could be found crocheting the edges for baby blankets.
She will be sadly missed by her family, who include two daughters, Nola Ann Rice of Wooster, and Linda Jo (Don) Anderson of New Philadelphia; three grandchildren, Carman Lin Koniski of Charleston, SC, Cristopher Koniski of Wooster, and Tess Mahala Anderson of New Philadelphia; three great-grandchildren, Edward Mendes, Wolfegang and Skye Koniski; a very special cousin, Doris Johnson of Canfield; several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Audrey was preceded in death by her husband, Francis, on Sept. 6, 1991; a brother and sister-in-law, Howard and Sarah Carman; a son-in-law, Clint Rice; and by a brother in infancy.
A funeral service will be held Monday, Jan. 10, at 11 a.m., in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory, Dover, with Pastor David W. Wing of the Foursquare Gospel Church in Dover officiating.
