Barbara A. Cunningham

Barbara A. Cunningham, age 76, of New Philadelphia (Oldtown Valley), passed away Tuesday, October 16, 2018, in Riverside Manor, Newcomerstown from complications of Parkinson’s Disease.

Born February 24, 1942, in Stone Creek, she was the daughter of the late Edwin and Nola Lieser Sargeant. Barbara graduated from Stone Creek High School as valedictorian in 1960. She married Howard E. Cunningham on April 18, 1964; the couple reared two children and shared forty-seven years of marriage prior to Howard’s passing on December 24, 2011. Barbara was a homemaker - a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

She was an active member of Grace Community Church, Stone Creek, where she was formerly choir director. Barbara very much enjoyed music and playing the piano. She liked to travel, and, in her younger days, enjoyed going bowling. Additionally, Barbara was a fan of the Cleveland Browns, Cavaliers and Indians, as well as Ohio State.

Survivors include her children, Connie (Bill) McClain and Thomas (Marcy) Cunningham, both of New Philadelphia; her grandchildren, Joshua, Jared and Alexis Cunningham, and Douglas (Sarah) and Brittany McClain; and her great-grandson, Elijah McClain.

A funeral service will be held Monday, October 22, at 11 a.m. in Grace Community Church, with Pastor Paul Houdashelt officiating. Burial will be in Stone Creek Cemetery. Following the committal, there will be a lunch at the church.
