Barbara Bernosky 1931-2012

Please join us in the "Celebration of Life" for a special person who was completely devoted to God and Family, Barbara (Barker) Bernosky, 81, of Dover, Ohio and a longtime resident of Guernsey County. Barb went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, November 8th while surrounded by her family. She was the daughter of the late Harold "Shorty" and Alice (Bethel) Barker.

Barbara was a retired Nurse Assistant from the Cambridge Behavioral Hospital in Cambridge, Ohio. She loved spending time with her family and dogs (Mattie and Sarah). She was also an avid gardener and had a special love for flowers. She was known for her love for sports; especially football and her Ohio State Buckeyes!

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Michael Bernosky whom she married on October 19th 1973; a son, Patrick McCartney; three brothers, Donald, Harold Jr., and Vernon "Popeye" Barker; sister-in-laws, Joyce Barker, and a sister, Patricia (Barker) Diab.

Surviving are three daughters: Pam (Keith) Aldergate of Sherrodsville, Ohio, Penny (Tim) Bear of Wright, Wyoming, and Peggy (Troy) Peoples of Dover, Ohio. Surviving siblings are two brothers, Richard (Jane) Barker of Flushing, Ohio, and Gene (Margene) Barker of Galloway, Ohio; four loving sisters, June Curtis of Greensboro, North Carolina, Sandra Vina of Burbank, California, Karen Helter of Lebanon, Ohio, and Beverly Hagar of Newark, Ohio.

She is also survived by 8 grandchildren: Becky (Graig) Bache, Nate Aldergate, Chris Aldergate (companion, Layne Foutsnight), Jodi Aldergate, Jessica McCartney (Fiance Jeff Cottrell), Jacob McCartney, Nick (Berina) Bear, and Nada Bear. Also survived are 7 great-grandchildren: Andrew, Lucas and Olivia Bache, Jonathon Shaw, Jace and Jaylee Soloman, and Sophia Aldergate and many nieces and nephews.

The family will receive guests on Monday, November 12th from 2:00-5:00 pm at NewPointe Community Church, 3950 State Route 39, Dover, Ohio. Immediately following, Pastor Dwight Mason will lead a service celebrating Barbara's life and legacy. Friends are invited to join the family for a time of food and fellowship following the service. A private family graveside service will be held at Rock Hill Cemetery, Flushing, Ohio. Toland-Herzig Funeral Homes & Crematory in Dover are handling the arrangements.
