Barbara A. DeMattio

Barbara A. DeMattio, age 85, of New Philadelphia, passed away on May 30, 2023 in her home surrounded by her loving family. 

She was born on November 6, 1937 in Bucks Township, Tuscarawas County, to the late John and Beulah Beitzel Kron. Barbara graduated from New Philadelphia High School in 1955, and, on January 14, 1956, married Edward H. "Ed" DeMattio, who survives. Barbara was a devoted wife and mother who was employed as a salesperson for the Montgomery Ward Co. and Heck's, both of Dover. She loved ballroom dancing with Ed, reading, sewing and mending for her large family, as well as cooking and canning.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her five children: Pamela (Steven) Clum of Port Washington, Sheldon (Tammy) DeMattio of New Philadelphia, Thomas DeMattio of Uhrichsville, Andrea DeMattio of New Philadelphia, and Timothy (Bridget) DeMattio of Shasta Lake, California; her nine grandchildren, Kristopher (Michelle) Clum, Persephone (Tom) McCreery, Eric (Betty) DeMattio, Geoff (Danielle) DeMattio, Jaime (Nate) Cox , Heather (Allen) Carothers, Matthew DeMattio, Alex (Shay) DeMattio and Antonia DeMattio; as well as her many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren - all of whom brought her great joy. Barbara is also survived by her sister, Judy (Bob) Celce of New Philadelphia, and nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents, Barbara was preceded in death by her daughter-in-law, Jackie DeMattio, her great-grandson, Nathaniel Clum, and her brother, Robert Kron.

Barbara provided her family with unconditional love and support. She treasured spending time with each of them and remained an integral part of their lives throughout the years. Her presence will be sorely missed but forever cherished.

Cremation is in the care of the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory, Dover. No services will take place at this time.
