Barbara E. Browning, 79, of Bowerston, died Tuesday, September 15, 2009 in the New Dawn Health Care Center, following a courageous battle with illness.
She was born July 15, 1930, the only daughter of the late Wayne & Dorothy Parker Leatherberry.
Though she did work outside of the home for several years with Scio Pottery and Dover Molded Plastics, home is truly where her heart was. Home meant family and friends, gardening, and spending time spoiling her grandchildren. It was the place everyone wanted to be, and she was the person everyone wanted to be there with.
Her faith also played a large role in her life. She had attended the Canton Baptist Temple since she was a child. The church took on added meaning as it was also the place where she first met the man who would be her husband of 53 years Clyde E. "Pappy" Browning. Pappy died July 23, 2005. The two were actively involved in the church, especially its Ambassador Class.
Barbara loved reading and traveling and will be fondly remembered for her great sense of humor. It seemed to those in the family that she touched the lives of almost everyone she ever met.
Surviving family members include: four children, Sue Olinger and her companion Clyde Giltz of Bowerston, Thomas (Judy) Browning of Mineral City, Tim Browning of Carrollton, and Sharon Schilling of Sherrodsville; eight grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; and four brothers, Gerald Leatherberry and Kenneth Parker of Florida, Donald Parker of Carrollton, and Jack Leatherberry of North Carolina.
Along with her parents and husband, a daughter, Karen Browning, preceded Barbara in death.
A funeral service celebrating Barbara's life will be held Friday at 10:30 a.m. in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory, Dover. Interment will be in the Dover Burial Park. Following the committal service, a meal will be served in the Toland-Herzig Monarch Center.
Friends may call in the funeral home on Thursday from 6-9 p.m.
Those unable to attend may sign the online register book for Barbara on the funeral home's website.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial gifts be made to the Carroll County Visiting Nurse Association, PO Box 610 Carrollton, OH 44615.
