Basilia "Bea" Space (Kayafas), loving wife for 69 years of George Space passed away on Sunday, April 12, 2015.
Bea was the devoted mother of Demetria (Robert) Hollister, Zachary (Jean) Space, and Athena (Ron) Hooker. She was a doting Yia Yia to Carl, George, Christopher, Gretchen, Heidi, Zachary, Andrew, Vanessa, and Nicholas, and a proud great- grandmother to 13 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters, Clara Hutras and Marciella Linamen.
In addition to her parents, Bea was preceded in death by sister, Dorothy Charnas.
Born in Warren, Ohio on October 24, 1927, she was the daughter of the late Nicholas and Athena Kayafas. She married the love of her life, George Jack Space in 1946 and raised their family in East Cleveland, Ohio. In 1966 Bea and George moved to their Camelot in Madison, Ohio. Upon retiring they then moved to Dover Ohio. For the past two years they have resided at the Emeritus Assisted Living Facility in Grove City, Ohio. Bea was the manager of Arthur Treacher's Fish N Chips. She was one of the founding members of St. Nicholas Orthodox Church of America in Painesville, Ohio. Bea was a member of St. Nicholas Ladies Orthodox Guild and worked tirelessly for the church. She was a lifelong member of the Pan Ikarian Brotherhood of America. After moving to Dover she became a member of the St. George Greek Orthodox Church and Philoptochos Society. She was also a member of the Tuscarawas Democratic Woman. Bea loved to cook traditional Ikarian Greek recipes and share them with family and friends. She enjoyed crocheting and gardening.
Visitation will be held on Thursday April 16, 2015 at Toland Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory in Dover, Ohio 2pm-4pm, and from 6pm-8pm. A Trisagion service will begin at 6:30pm. A funeral service will be held on Friday April 17, 2015 at 12:30pm at St. George Greek Orthodox Church in Massillon, Ohio. Interment will take place at Dover Burial Park. Following the service of committal, the Makaria, mercy meal will be served at Ricardo's, 115 Front Avenue SW New Philadelphia Ohio 44663. Bea never missed an opportunity to tell her grandchildren "I love you too much."
