Beatrice Cato, 92, of Dover, died Friday, Dec. 4, 2009, in Elyria Memorial Hospital, following an extended illness.
Born Mar. 12, 1917 in Little Woods, Louisiana, she was the daughter of the late Quillie and Leona Davis Jackson. Beatrice attended school in Little Woods, and then moved to Ohio. In 1942, she married Luther E. Cato, Jr. in Dover. The couple reared eight children.
Beatrice was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grand-mother. She was a faithful member of the Church of Christ in Dover, was fond of gospel music, and enjoyed entertaining family and friends. One could not visit Beatrice's home without being treated with great kindness and having something to eat and she was an excellent cook.
Survivors include three daughters, Lena (Robert) Morton of Dover, Linda (Donald) Noel of Carmel, IN, and Patricia (William) Dunbar of Columbus; three sons, Clarence Evans, Jr. of Columbus, Ernest "Ernie" (Cynthia) Cato of Elyria, and Richard Cato of Dover; twenty-four grandchildren; thirty great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, Beatrice was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Luther, on Feb. 12, 1997; a daughter, Sheila Carrington; a son, Albert Evans; and by three grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held Friday, Dec. 11, at 11 a.m., in the Church of Christ, 230 E. Fourth St., Dover, with Randy Chapman officiating. Burial will be in Dover Burial Park. Family and friends are invited to call at the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory, 803 N. Wooster Ave., Dover, on Thursday, Dec. 10, 6 8 p.m., and on Friday, 10 11 a.m. at the church.
