Benjamin Franklin “Ben” Limbacher, age 69 of Strasburg died peacefully at Union Hospital on Tuesday, April 12, 2005, following a brief illness. Born May 5, 1935 in Strasburg, Ben was the son of the late Walter L. Limbacher and Ora E. Schlemmer.
Ben graduated from Strasburg High School in 1953 and married Barbara Bayer in 1959. He obtained his Associates Degree from Penn State University while working at General Electric in Dover. He retired from GE in 1996 after 35 years as a quality control technician specialist. He also worked many years for the former Standard Oil Company and Nickles Bakery.
Ben will be remembered as a loving and kind father and grandfather. He loved spending time with his children and their families, doing yard work, and watching sports, especially Nascar, the Yankees, and the Strasburg Tigers. Over the years, he has also thoroughly enjoyed watching the neighborhood children grow up. Many will never forget his jokes and stories, as well as his friendly wave from the front porch.
His family includes his wife, Barbara, daughter, Heidi (Jeff) Clower of Summerville, SC, daughter, Krista (Robert) Beyrer of Cincinnati, OH, and son, Kurt (Michelle) Limbacher of High Point, NC. Grandchildren include Spencer, Noelle, Adeline and Amelia Clower, Gabrielle and Meghan Beyrer, and Ashley and Baby Boy Limbacher. He is also survived by brothers, Harold Limbacher of Dover and John Limbacher of Bolivar, sister, Dorothy Rummes of Dover and mother in law Glee Bayer of Dover.
In addition to his parents, Ben was preceded in death by son, Craig, daughters, Jami and Jill, brother Walter “Pete” Limbacher, sister Clara (Limbacher) McMann and an infant sister.
Friends may call at the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory in Dover on Thursday, April 14 from 5-8 pm. Funeral services will be held on Friday, April 15 at 11am in the St. John United Church of Christ in Strasburg, led by Reverend Gerald Schuessler. The graveside service will follow at Grandview Union Cemetery in Strasburg.
