Bernice E. Vogel

Bernice E. Vogel, 90, of New Philadelphia, Ohio died Friday, November 29, 2002 in the New Dawn Retirement Center following a brief illness.

Born July 4, 1912 in Noble County, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Alva and Mella Mae Hughey Merryman.

Bernice was an active member of the Crooked Run United Methodist Church in New Phila. She was also a member of the Tuscarawas County Senior Citizens at Memorial Hall, Tuscarawas Co. Homemakers Chorus, York Homemakers, Super Kids Kitchen Band for 16 years where she impersonated Minnie Pearl. She was also active in the Super 60�(TM)s of the First Baptist Church in N. Phila, Golden Seniors of the Calvary Baptist Church in N. Phila, and she enjoyed playing bingo and working cross word puzzles. She especially enjoyed her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Ray Vogel who died in March, 1978.

She is survived by two sons Harley R. (Alice) Vogel of New Philadelphia and Dale V. (Lynn) Vogel of Dover; Six grandchildren Michael R. (Tammy) Vogel of Port Washington, Chris (Sherri) Vogel of New Philadelphia, Joan (Dave) Albrecht of New Philadelphia, Tim (Geana) Vogel of New Philadelphia, Sam Vogel and Tiffany Canfield of Newcomerstown, Keith (Wendy) Vogel of Stone Creek; two sisters, Sarah Elizabeth Gordon and Wilma Schupp both of Uhrichsville along with 20 great grandchildren and one expecting great grandchild; a brother in law, Harry Fockler of Dover and many caring nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by one daughter, Janice E. Vogel, one son, John E. Vogel, one brother, Lawrence Merryman, two sisters, Vessie Welz and Minnie Gray and an infant sister.

Due to an extensive renovation of the New Philadelphia funeral home, funeral services will be held Tuesday at 11:30 am in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home at Dover with Pastor George E. Reichman Jr. officiating. Interment will be in the East Avenue Cemetery at New Phila. Friends may call at the funeral home in Dover on Monday from 5-8 pm.
