Bernice Edwards Gamble, 94, of Dover was born on October 2, 1911 in Flushing, Ohio to the late Harry and Jessie Figley Burdette, and died in her home at 312 E 15th St. Dover surrounded by her family. Early on the morning of May 7, 2006, she walked through her garden on her way to Heaven. Now she is in God�(TM)s garden enjoying the company of her first husband, Walter Edwards and her second husband, Rev. William Gamble. She loved her garden and flowers on earth, as well as singing and humming her favorite hymns. She is now in heaven singing with the angels.
She spent most of her life as a homemaker, but she was employed at Union Hospital as a Nurses Aid for 12 years.
She was a member of the New Philadelphia First Church of the Nazarene and the Scriptural Holiness Church in Newcomerstown. She also belonged to the Red Hat Society.
Bernice is survived by her eight children, Janet (Dean) Feller of Dover, Doloris (William) Clinton of Dover, Delbert (Mary) Edwards of Dundee, Doyle (Gloria) Edwards of Rome, New York, Carol (Jerry) Clum of New Philadelphia, Marcia (Thomas) Shepherd of Newcomerstown, Richard Edwards of New Philadelpia and Martin (Connie) Edwards of Port Washington; 31 grandchildren, Holly Gonter, Richard Feller, Deanna Vickery, Todd Feller, Darcie Shepherd, Randy and Ronald Ewing, Martin, Steve, Richard, Robert and William Clinton Jr., Michael and Jack Edwards, Debra Compton, Theresa LaLonde, Pamela Merriman, Sheryl Potochi, Christine Abbott, Lenard Davis, Edward Edwards, Doug and Greg Clum, Shelly Farrar, Mitch Clum, Jason and Jerry Shepherd, Elizabeth Edwards, Deidra, Karisa and Mathew Carlisle; 59 great grandchildren and 11 great-great grandchildren; three sisters, Etta Morrison of Gnadenhutten, Mary Gambs of Uhrichsville and Shirley Schupp of New Philadelphia; brother, Byron (Ruby) Burdette of Cosby, Tennessee; special friends, Bessie Fensler, Carol (Bob) Pounds and Rev. William (Elizabeth) Waltz; her compassionate and special caretaker, Katie Miller. Throughout her life Bernice helped raise many children, including: James Presutti, Richie Pica, Jimmy Torch, Jake, Laura and Erin Krupar. She was also a 'special' grandmother to Makayla, Kaitlyn and Marissa Henninge.
In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by a granddaughter, Dawn Ewing; grandson, Rick Edwards; great granddaughter, Brittany Clum; step son, William Gamble; three brothers, Laurel, Harry and Paul Burdette; one sister, Jessie Burdette.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 10, 2006 at 10:00 am in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Homes and Crematory at Dover with Rev. William Waltz and Dr. Vernon Morse officiating. Interment will be in the Greenlawn Cemetery at Sandyville. Friends can call in the funeral home on Tuesday from 5-8 pm.
