Bessie M. Harper, 82, of Dover, died peacefully Sunday, August 14, 2005 in the Hennis Care Centre at Dover.
Born May 8, 1923 at New Philadelphia, she was the daughter of the late Clyde M. & Laura Barr Law, as well as her stepmother, Clara.
Bessie retired in 1989 from the JCPenney Company, where she had spent 30 years as head cashier.
She was a longtime, active member of the Dover Alliance Church. In the early 1950�(TM)s when the church had a radio show on WJER, Bessie, along with Dortha Moore and Naomi Baker sang “Harbored in Jesus” which opened every program. She had also served the church as a Sunday school teacher, organist, and had been a member of the Women in the Word group.
Bessie adored her family and loved spending time with her grandchildren. Even in to her 60�(TM)s & 70�(TM)s, she enjoyed bicycling and roller-skating with the great grandchildren.
She is survived by: a loving daughter, Linda (Timothy) Staitz of Canal Fulton; two brothers, Clyde T. (Pat) Law of Michigan, and Duane “Barney” (Marlyn) Law of Dover; six grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren, all of whom were so special to her.
In addition to her parents, Bessie was preceded in death by: a daughter, Judith Hanlon, a sister, Ruth Kalp and her husband Tom who died together tragically, and her special friend and companion Forrest Hellem.
A funeral ceremony that celebrates Bessie�(TM)s life will be held Thursday, August 18, at 5:00 p.m. in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory, Dover with Rev. Richard Rose officiating. Following the service, the Dover Alliance Church will be hosting a fellowship meal for friends and family.
Friends may call in the funeral home on Thursday from 3:00 p.m. until time of services at 5:00 p.m.
Bessie�(TM)s body will be cremated and the ashes interred in the Dover Burial Park in a private, family ceremony at a later date.
