Bettie Irene Heintz, 87, of Dover, died Saturday, August 15, 2009, in Park Village Health Care Center, following a long illness.

Born August 1, 1922, in Otsego, Ohio, she was a daughter of the late Merle and Celia Eckleberry Van Alstyne. Bettie married Robert E. Heintz on December 19, 1942, and together they reared three children.

Bettie worked briefly, along with her sisters, for the former Dover-New Philadelphia Laundry. She was then employed for many years by Miller Studio in New Philadelphia. Most importantly, Bettie was a loving homemaker. In her spare time, she enjoyed taking walks, playing cards - especially double canasta, working crossword puzzles, bowling and crocheting.

She will be missed by her two daughters, Biva (George) Polen of New Philadelphia, and Vivian Eichel of Bowerston; her son, Douglas (Faye) Heintz of Pickerington; eight grandchildren; Joyce Polen of Stonecreek, Brenda (Art) McDonald of Iowa, Rhonda (David) Ward of Dover, Ryan, Karrie, and Erika Heintz, all of Pickerington, Darren (Amanda) Prosser of Dover, and Warren Prosser of Akron; two step-grandchildren, James (Vicky) Eichel of Berlin, Ohio, and Tammy Eichel of South Dakota; eleven great-grandchildren; four step-great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchilden; two brothers, Larry (Carolyn) Van Alstyne of Dover, and William (Grace) Shroyer of New Philadelphia; sisters-in-law; Joanne Van Alstyne of Dover, and Doris (William) McFain of Granite City, Illinois.

In addition to her parents, Bettie was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Robert, on April 15, 2002; three sisters, Jean Tyson, June Fanti, and Elnor Van Alstyne; and a brother; Walter Van Alstyne.

Honoring Bettie�(TM)s wishes, she will be cremated through the care of Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory in Dover. A public graveside service will be held Tuesday, August 25, at 11 a.m., in Ridgecrest Memory Gardens, with Rev. Michael W. Lowry of St. John�(TM)s United Church of Christ in Dover officiating. Family and friends are invited to a luncheon immediately following the service in the Toland-Herzig Monarch Center, 831 Boulevard, Dover.
