Betty Caroline Yackey Gordon Goedel, 83, of Dover died Friday, August 5, 2005, in her home.
Born June 20, 1922 in Franklin Twp. She was the daughter of the late Ralph & Viola Myers Yackey.
Betty was a lifelong member of the Strasburg United Methodist Church where she had been active with the United Methodist Women and formerly served as church treasurer as well as being a Sunday School teacher for a number of years.
She was a very active woman who, for more than 50 years was a member of the Cypress Chapter of Order of Eastern Star. She loved sports and closely followed the Cleveland Indians. Additionally, she enjoyed reading and crocheting, but was always more interested in doing things with the people she cared about, whether it was being with family at special gatherings, playing 500 in her Cousin's Card Club, or her monthly get-togethers with classmates from the Strasburg High class of 1940.
Betty was preceded in death by two loving husbands, Wilbert Coy “Brick” Gordon, who died on October 31, 1953, and Theodore H. “Ted” Goedel, who passed away on December 27, 1998.
Survivors include: five children, Donald (Suanne) Gordon, Sr. of Bucyrus, Dennis Gordon, Sr. of Maryland, Phoebe (Lynn) Zehnder of Strasburg, Deborah (Randy) Gordon-Rogers of Dover, and Candace (Jim) Marks of Dover; twelve grandchildren, Kimberly Davis, Donald Gordon, Jr., Dennis Gordon, Jr., Bryan Gordon, Nicole Arrowsmith, Misty Schiefer, Crystal Williford, Denise Carpenter, Rachel Howell, Cassandra Marks, Amanda Rogers, and Mathew Rogers; three sisters, Eileen Ray, Doris Yackey, and Bonnie Yackey; a brother, Dave (Tarry) Yackey; sister-in-law, Ann Yackey; 24 great grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.
In addition to her parents and husbands, Betty was preceded in death by: two brothers, Kenneth & James Yackey, and two grandchildren.
A ceremony celebrating Betty�(TM)s life will be conducted Tuesday, August 9, at 10:30 a.m. in the Strasburg United Methodist Church with Rev. Steven Court and Rev. Howard Fox officiating. Interment will be in the Dover Burial Park.
Friends may call in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory, Dover, on Monday from 5-8 p.m.
