Betty G. Hanner

Betty G. Hanner, 90, a longtime resident of Dover and formerly of Strasburg passed away peacefully early Saturday morning, March 26, 2016 following a brief illness.

She was a secretary of the former Dover Foods that was operated by the Hanner family.
Born January 7, 1926 in Midvale, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Dorris and Dorothy (Burrows) Donaldson.

Betty was a member of the Wannabes in Strasburg. She was also previously active in the Twig Auxiliary at Union Hospital, Dover Jaycee Wives and the Dover Literary Club. She was a 1943 graduate of Strasburg High School. She enjoyed knitting and made numerous hats that she donated to churches and charities.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Willard K. Hanner who she married on June 23, 1945. He died August 18, 2003. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Marian Jones; a brother, Lloyd Donaldson; a son in law, Wayne West and an infant granddaughter.

Betty will be sadly missed by her family that includes five children, Susan Reuter of Dover, Elizabeth (Rod) Kendle of Alliance, Jean (Byron L. Rosenthal) West of Dover, Bob Hanner of Dover and Willard K. Hanner Jr. of Akron; 10 grandchildren, Jim Ford, Teresa Metzendorf, Amy Wright, Chelsea Lahmers, Eve Wagner, Anne Moore, Mollie Hanner, Betsy Hanner, Frank Hanner, Leslie Bruhn along with twelve great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

A memorial service celebrating Betty's life will be held Thursday, March 31, 2016 beginning at 5pm in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory at Dover with Pastor Brian Flood officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 3-5pm. A reception will follow the service at the Toland-Herzig Monarch Center.
