Betty J. Atkinson

Betty J. Atkinson, 87, of Dover died Saturday, August 18, 2012 in the Mercy Medical Center at Canton following a brief illness.

Born July 26, 1925 in Barnsville she was a daughter of the late Harry and Lucy Hunkler Lynn. Betty was also preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Lawrence G. Atkinson on February 27, 2012 and her brother, Carl Lynn.

She was formerly employed by the Montgomery Ward Co., was a member of St Joseph Catholic Church and the Regina and St. Ann Study Club. Following retirement, she and Larry would spend the winter months in Naples, Florida which she considered the best 16 years of her life.

A wonderful and loving mother and grandmother, Betty is survived by her children, Lynn Van Ostenbridge, Jennifer (Greg) Heter and Amy Doidge all of New Philadelphia, Steve Atkinson of Columbus and John (Sandy) Atkinson of Dover; seven grandchildren, one step grandchild and two step great grandchildren.

Cremation has been entrusted to the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home and Crematory at Dover. A memorial mass will be held on Friday, September 7, 2012 at 10:30 am in the St. Joseph Catholic Church at Dover with Fr. Matt Hoover officiating. Interment of the ashes will be in the Mt. Hope Cemetery at Hendrysburg, Ohio. Memorial calling hours will be held in honor of both Betty and Larry on Saturday, August 25, 2012 in the Toland-Herzig Monarch Center on the Boulevard from 2-4 pm.
