Betty J. Briggs

Betty J. Briggs, age 74, of Canton and formerly of Bolivar, died Thursday, July 23, 2015, in Mercy Medical Center, Canton, following a brief illness.

Born May 22, 1941, in Clarksburg, West Virginia, she was a daughter of the late Frank and Ethel (Norris) Clark. Betty moved with her family at a young age to Ohio, where she attended Strasburg High School. She was a retired nursing assistant, having been employed by both Schoenbrunn Health Care Center, New Philadelphia, and Navarre Community Health Care Center (now Altercare of Navarre). Betty was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, who enjoyed reading, crocheting and cross-stitching, and she had a green thumb when it came to growing plants and flowers. Betty also loved the animals around her home, both wild and stray, which she fed and attended to. Some of her other favorite pastimes included going out to eat and shopping she was especially fond of purses.

She will be sadly missed by her family, which includes her three children, Gloria Wolfe of New Philadelphia, Mike (Joanne) Reneker of Dover, and Jamie Reneker of Canton; her seven grandchildren, April and Mindy Wolfe, Blake, Michael, Samantha, Rachel and Ashley Reneker; her three great-grandchildren, Emma Rose Wolfe and Laynee and Livianna Reneker; her sister, Shirley Ciaro of Canton; her brother, Donny (Sandy) Clark of Massillon; and her several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Richard J. Briggs in 1992.

Family and friends are invited to call at the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory, Dover, on Sunday, July 26, 2 5 p.m. A funeral service will be held Monday, July 27, at 11 a.m., in the funeral home. Burial will be in Dover Burial Park. Following the committal, there will be a luncheon in the Toland-Herzig Monarch Center on the Boulevard, Dover.
