BETTY J. KUHNS
Betty J. Kuhns, 89, of Dover, Ohio passed away Sunday, March 3, 2013, in the Community Hospice House in New Philadelphia after a period of declining health. Born November 11, 1923, at Twin City Hospital in Dennison, Ohio, she was a daughter of the late Charles M. Murray and Florence M. Shores Murray.
A 1941 graduate of Steubenville (Big Red) High School, Betty married the love of her life, J. Dale "Red" Kuhns, on November 5, 1944. She was a devoted homemaker and a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother whose greatest joy was caring for her family. A former Sunday School teacher who loved children, Betty was a wonderful cook and baker who also enjoyed fishing with her husband, reading, walking and yoga. In her later years, Betty was a proud and dedicated supporter of the Wounded Warrior Project.
Betty was preceded in death by her husband, J. Dale Kuhns, on November 25, 1997, sister, Mary Payne and brother, Charles Murray. She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, William J. and Emelita Dualan Kuhns, of Dover; three daughters and sons-in-law, Mary Lou and Robert J. Gillen, of Dover; Jane A. and Van G. Weckman, of Dover; Deborah S. and Jack M. Towarnicky of Westerville, Ohio; six grandchildren, Michael A. Kuhns, Joseph D. Kuhns, Kimberly J. (Michael P.) McCarrell, Elizabeth A. Weckman, Andrew J. Towarnicky, Dayle M. Towarnicky; and, four great-grandchildren, Logan, Rowan and Lauren McCarrell and Maliah Dualan Kuhns.
Cremation has taken place through the care of Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory in Dover and a private memorial service will be held by the family with interment in the Fort Steuben Cemetery at Wintersville, Ohio.
