Betty J. Littleton, age 91, of Dover, passed away Thursday, January 10, 2019, in Community Hospice’s Truman House.
Born September 10, 1927, in Newcomerstown, she was a daughter of the late Ernest R. and Mellie E. Renner Stewart. Betty graduated from Gnadenhutten High School in 1945, and worked for the former Belmont Stamp & Enameling Co., New Philadelphia. She married Edgar L. “Ed” Littleton on May 19, 1948; the couple had four children and shared sixty-three years of marriage prior to Ed’s passing on August 16, 2011. Betty was a loving homemaker who especially enjoyed her grandchildren. She was a wonderful cook and baker; she gardened, growing vegetables that she often canned, as well as beautiful flowers; and she sewed and mended. One of her favorite pastimes was working word search books.
Betty will be dearly missed by her family, which includes her children, Dixie Hilton and Joyce Littleton, both of Dover, Gary (Judy) Littleton of Trenton, Florida, and Amy (Michael) Strode of Stockport; her grandchildren, Todd (Debbie), Tim and Tom Hilton, Mallory (Jim) Green, Trevor (Shanna) Littleton, Benjamin (Jenny) Strode, Elizabeth (Marcus) Pieper, Rachel (Phillip) Wild, Lydia (Caleb) Pieper, Noah (Kara) Strode, Abigail (Benton) Wasson, Hannah, Susanna, Julia, Ethan and Elijah Strode; her eighteen great-grandchildren - and a nineteenth expected in July; her two brothers and two sisters, Jim (Shirley) Stewart, Margy Burton, Dale (Kathy) Stewart and Audrey (Dick) Clum; and her many nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, and her beloved husband, Ed, Betty was preceded in death by eight siblings including her half-brother.
Because of her quiet personal nature, Betty requested that her services be private. Burial will be in Dover Burial Park.
The family suggests that contributions in Betty’s memory be made to Community Hospice, 716 Commercial Ave. S.W., New Philadelphia, Ohio 44663.
