Betty June Mathews (Metzger) died peacefully at home on September 8th, 2005 after a courageous battle with lymphoma. Born September 11th, 1925, in Dover, Ohio she was a lifetime resident of Dover. Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Emma Metzger, one son, Dennis Mathews, and one grand daughter Melanie K. Mathews.
Betty is survived by her husband of 63 years, Raymond J. Mathews, sons Gary (Miyuki) Mathews of Canton, Ohio, Tim (Marty) Mathews of Akron, Ohio, Jeff (Julie) Mathews of Ishpeming, Michigan, Ed Mathews of Northport, Florida, and daughter Sally Mathews of Sarasota, Florida, 8 grand children, and 6 great-grandchildren. She was a loving wife, dedicated mother and grandmother, and was a cherished friend to many.
Betty was a long time member of the First United Methodist Church of Dover. She was an enthusiastic member of the choir and United Methodist Women and selected as woman of the year for her dedicated efforts. She was a member of Dover High School�(TM)s Class of 43, worked many years as a medical assistant at Union Hospital, and with a number of Dover doctor�(TM)s offices.
Friends may call on Sunday September 11, 2005 between 5 and 8 PM and Monday 10 �" 10:45 AM at the Toland�"Herzig Funeral Home, 803 North Wooster Avenue, Dover, Ohio. Rev. Larry Black will officiate graveside services at Dover Burial Park on Monday at 11am.
