Betty Jane Wolfe

Betty Jane Wolfe, 99, of Scio passed away on October 11, 2015 at the Community Hospice House in New Philadelphia.

Born in Grover Hill, Ohio on August 28, 1916, she was the daughter of the late Clarence and Laura (Powell) Wiseley. She graduated from Defiance High School. Following graduation she enrolled in the Lucas County School of Nursing. Betty received her Bachelor of Science degree in nursing from Western Reserve University and later received her Master's degree from the University Of Michigan School Of Public Health. She became the Director of Nursing at the Lorain County Health Department from 1963 until 1976. She then became the Commissioner of the Lorain County Health Department in 1976 and retired in 1985. Betty also worked for several health departments throughout the state. She received the Women of Achievement Merit Award in 1981 and also received the John D. Porterfield Award, which is the highest honor given to public health officials in Ohio.

Betty loved cooking. She also enjoyed selling antiques at flea markets.

Betty will be sadly missed by her children; Charles Clarence (Barbara Ann) Wolfe of Kokomo, Indiana, Robert Carrol (Karen) Wolfe of Sylvania, Ohio, and Mary Jane Wolfe of Tallmadge; along with nine grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild.

In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her brothers; Doyle and Charlton Wiseley, and Nephew, Dea Wiseley.
