Betty L. Brown

Betty L. Brown, 80, of Dover, died Thursday, June 10, 2004, in Union Hospital, following an illness of six months.

Born June 15, 1923, in Cambridge, she was the daughter of the late Orville and Ruth Siegfried Boyd. Betty graduated Cambridge High School, and was employed by the Timken Roller Bearing Co. during World War II. She married Lewis Brown in 1944. First and foremost, Betty was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She also had a business career, owning and operating her own accounting and tax business in Canton from 1947 until 1964, when it was purchased by Stark Tax Service. Betty, Lewis and their family moved to Dover in 1963, where she obtained her real estate license and assisted her husband in the operation of the Brown Real Estate Agency.

In her retirement, Betty enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, playing bingo, antiquing and traveling the United States.

Survivors include two daughters, Cindy (Gerald) Ulrich of Dover, and Susan (Paul) Behm of New Philadelphia; two sons, Dr. Richard (Twila) Brown of New Philadelphia, and Dr. Michael (V. Jane) Brown of Dover; ten grandchildren, Ruth (Mike) Powell, Amanda (Jim) Cox, Dr. Nancy Brown, Erin Brown, Daniel (Melissa) Brown, Sheila Murphy, Sherri (Jamie) Douglas, Michael L. Brown, Lindsay Brown and Abby Brown; four great-grandchildren, Tyler and Emaly Cox, and Zachary and Courtney Douglas.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Lewis, in 1983; a brother, William Boyd; and an infant sister.

A service celebrating Betty�(TM)s life will be held Monday, June 14, at 11:30 a.m., in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home, 803 N. Wooster Ave., Dover, officiated by Rev. Jeffrey R. Gerber of the First United Church of Christ in New Philadelphia. Burial will be in Dover Burial Park. Following the committal, there will be a reception in the Toland-Herzig Monarch Center, 831 Boulevard, Dover.
