Betty Lou Huffman, age 85, of Strasburg, passed away Saturday, July 28, 2012, in Hennis Care Centre in Bolivar after a period of declining health.
A daughter of the late Bryan and E. Erdine Wallick, she was born Nov. 21, 1926, in Columbia (RD 2, Dover).
She was a 1944 graduate of Strasburg High School, and remained a loyal Strasburg fan the remainder of her life. After graduation from high school, she attended business school in Wooster, after which Nickles Bakery in Navarre and the former Marsh Wall Products in New Philadelphia employed her as a secretary.
After her marriage Oct. 31, 1948, to Harvey F. Huffman, she was a homemaker.
She was a member of St. John United Church of Christ in Strasburg where, while her children were young, she taught Sunday school and assisted with Daily Vacation Bible School. She also was a former member of the choir and participated in the church's monthly Seasoned Seniors organization.
Over the years she was involved with various groups and organizations, among them a mother's club, which began life as the Strasburg Young Mothers and over the years, underwent name changes to reflect the passage of time. She and her husband Harvey enjoyed dancing as members of the Hicks and Chicks Square Dance Club. While her children were in school, she was an active member of the Strasburg Band Boosters. She was an avid fan of the Cleveland Indians and Ohio State University Buckeyes, and never lost her love of a good book.
In addition to her parents, her husband Harvey preceded her in death on Jan. 4, 2001. Two brothers, Richard Wallick and Thomas Wallick also are deceased.
Her son and daughter-in-law, Rex and Karen Huffman of New Philadelphia; her daughter and son-in-law, Corrinne and John Gerber of Strasburg; and two granddaughters, Laurie J. Gerber of Columbia, Ky., and Angela (Eric) Klein of San Diego, Calif., survive her.
