Betty M. Littlefield, 87, of New Philadelphia passed away at Park Village Health Care Center on Saturday, January 8, 2022.
Betty was born on Oct. 13, 1934, in Gratiot County, Michigan to Otto M. and Hazel (Albaugh) Long. She grew up in Massillon, Ohio, where she attended the Nazarene Church and graduated from Washington High School. She met her husband, Earl P. Littlefield in 1953. They married in 1957 and raised two children, Shelley and Scott.
As a long-time member of the New Philadelphia Church of the Nazarene, Betty served in many capacities. She taught Sunday school, sang in the choir, was head greeter for many years, served as senior prime time director for the local church, as well as the Eastern Ohio District. She was also Bible school director in the Nazarene Church in Albany, Georgia and was head of the local Nazarene Church women’s Red Hat Society.
Betty worked for 18 years in various dental offices in Massillon, Akron and Dover and was Vice President of Dover-Phila. Electric, Inc.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Otto M. and Hazel Long, and a daughter, Shelley Craine. She was the last surviving member of a family of 9 children.
She is survived by her husband, Earl P. Littlefield, son Scott (Joan) Littlefield of Souderton, Pennsylvania, granddaughter, Brooke (Joseph) Newell of Noxen, PA, grandson Brandon Littlefield of Largo, Florida, and four great-grandchildren, Jamison Newell, Griffin Newell, Dawson Newell and Coralyn Newell.
She is also survived by several nieces and nephews, including special nieces, Glenda Head of Benton Harbor, Michigan, Kimberley Singleton of Thornton, Colorado, and Tammy Bigler of Henderson, Nevada and by special nephews Timothy Long of Westerville, Ohio, and Robert Reed of Goose Creek, South Carolina.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, January 13th starting at 1:30 pm in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home and Crematory at Dover with Pastor Mark Maddux officiating. Interment will be at the Dover Burial Park. Following the burial, a luncheon will be held at the New Philadelphia Church of the Nazarene. The family will be greeting friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service on Thursday.
