Betty Yockey, 90, of Dover, died Wednesday, Jan. 25, 2012, in Amberwood Manor, New Philadelphia.
Born Jul. 7, 1921, in Uhrichsville, she was a daughter of the late Walter and Elizabeth Cross Hines. Betty graduated from Uhrichsville High School, and went on to attend Akron City Hospital's School of Nursing and become a registered nurse. She practiced for over thirty years, first at Twin City Hospital in Dennison, and then at Union Hospital in Dover, from which she retired.
Betty married Adrian Yockey on Jun. 6, 1946. The couple shared nearly fifty-four years together, and reared three sons, before Adrian's passing on Nov. 13, 2000.
She was a member of Faith United Methodist Church in Dover, as well as "The Betty Club." Betty and Adrian loved traveling the United States. In their later years they became "snowbirds," spending winters at their home in St. Cloud, FL. Betty also enjoyed learning about and celebrating her Scottish heritage - often attending fairs and other get-togethers. She was also fond of playing cards with family and friends, especially 500.
Survivors include her three sons, David (Lorri) Yockey and Mark (Vickie) Yockey, both of Bolivar, and Keith Yockey of Dover; fourteen grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, and her husband, Adrian, she was preceded in death by a sister, Joan Hunt; and by two brothers, Robert and Glen Hines.
A funeral service will be held Saturday, Jan. 28, at 1 p.m., in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory, 246 E. High Ave., New Philadelphia, with Pastor Shelly Nordine officiating. Burial will be in Dover Burial Park. Following the committal, there will be a luncheon in Faith United Methodist Church.
